Deanna Landis (Radford,
VA) The JR Motorsports Late Model team competed in Saturday’s Adam’s
Construction 100 at Motor Mile Speedway, the team’s 10th race this
season at the Virginia track.
After a full day of
testing Friday, the #17 team prepared for a strong run in Saturday’s
100 lap feature. 27 late models started the field, led by Jerome
Donley in the #5 machine. Donley posted a 16.31 second lap, followed
by the #8 Tam Topham and Nathan Buttke in the #77. TJ Majors
qualified in the 11th position with a 16.51 second lap.

Donley led the way to green for 100
laps of late model action. By lap 3, Majors in the #17 climbed up to 8th
position. The first caution of the night came on lap 12 with the #12 and
#02 spinning in Turn 2. The field resumed green flag racing at lap 15
for two laps, as Peyton Sellers in the #26 and Michael Kidd in the #49
made contact going into Turn 4. Both trying to avoid the tangle, the #4
of Frank Deiny, Jr. and Majors in the #17 made contact and spun down the
front stretch.
The JR Motorsports team checked for
damage and resumed racing in the 21st position as the field
set for the restart on lap 22. The #17 had right front body damage
causing the car to become tight. Donley in the #5 and Tam Topham in the
#8 continued to widen the gap, as they led the field. By lap 50, Majors
climbed 6 spots to the 15th position during a long green flag
run. A yellow flag for debris showed on lap 70, also bringing the field
back together by lap 75 for the green. Majors climbed to the 9th
position by lap 92 and competed with Tony McGuire in the #7 machine for
the 8th spot as a caution came out on lap 99. Rusty Skewes in
the #41 spun in Turn 4. A green-white-checker finish found Jerome Donley
claiming his first NASCAR late model stock victory and Tam Topham in 2nd.
Majors finished in the 9th position.
