(Radford, VA)  TJ Majors and the JR Motorsports Late Model team competed in the Bumper-to-Bumper 100 lap NASCAR late model division race at New River Valley Speedway, now known as Motor Mile Speedway.

The #17 team tested the late model Friday and felt confident going into race day activities on Saturday.  Out of 23 cars, TJ qualified in the 14th starting position. Frank Deiny Jr sat on the pole with a 16.3 second lap.

n the early laps of the race, TJ quickly moved up to 9th position from the14th place start. On lap 41, TJ and the #8 car, driven by Tam Topham, got together in Turn 2 and sent the #17 late model on two wheels driving over the door of the 8 car.  The tangle caused TJ to pit on lap 43 due to a tire rub from right front fender damage.

Determined to finish the race, the team went back out on the track 10 laps down.  Several cautions later, only 13 of the 23 cars remained on track.  TJ Majors and team finished in 13th place.  Frank Deiny Jr won from the pole with Kelly Kingery in second.  Deiny has won four out of the past five events at Motor Mile Speedway.

The JR Motorsports team heads back to Motor Mile Speedway for Saturday’s 100 lap late model race.  Motor Mile Speedway will also be hosting the USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup 250 on Saturday, July 17th.

Congratulations to Hovis, tireman for the JR Motorsports late model team, for finishing 10th in his first UCAR race at Motor Mile Speedway.
