September 4th, 2004 Deanna Landis (Radford, VA) TJ Majors and the JR Motorsports Late Model team headed back to Motor Mile Speedway to defend their August 21st 200 lap victory. The Collision Plus 200 lap Kern’s Memorial race started with a qualifying lineup lead by Denny Hamlin in the #99 taking the pole with a 16.32 second lap. Jerame Donley in the #5 started 2nd followed by Jason Mitcham in the #24 and TJ Majors in 4th position. At the start of the race, Denny Hamlin took a commanding lead over the field. Majors, starting on the outside, fell back to 7th position by lap 8, unable to get in line with the inside cars. The first caution came on lap 17 with a front stretch wreck between the #55 and #32. Ten green laps and the 2nd caution came out with a tangle in Turn 4 with the #54 and #26. Majors, with a strong racecar, worked his was back up to 4th place by lap 83 setting his sights on the front field. On lap 97, the #28 spun on the backstretch bringing out a yellow and bringing the field back together. The green flag waived on lap 103. On lap 105 Frank Deiny Jr. in 3rd position turned the #5 of Jerame Donley in Turn 4. Majors in 4th, behind Deiny, with no where to go, ran into the driver’s side of the #5. With major front end damage, the #17 headed to the pits. The race ended short for the JR Motorsports team as the rest of the field went green. Hamlin led the rest of the pack from green flag to checkered flag. Jason Mitcham finished 2nd followed by the #57 of Kelly Kingery, Morty Buckles in the #54 and Frank Deiny Jr. in the #4. The JR Motorsports Late Model team heads back to Motor Mile Speedway for the Adam’s Construction 100 lap Late Model race on Saturday, September 11th. |
